Recently, Community Resource FCU was recognized for achieving first place for three New York Credit Union Association awards in recognition of community development, support and education efforts. Each one is a reflection of the incredible work and support of the Community Resource team and YOU, our awesome members. We work each and every day to bring inclusion, equity and empowerment to our local community. As a community financial cooperative, none of this is possible without you, our community. - The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award recognizes credit unions for external activities within the community. Community Resource FCU is receiving the award in the $50 million – $250 million asset category for the credit union’s initiative, Charitable Giving to Inner City Residents, in which the credit union raised funds to support Credit Unions 4 Kids, Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless and the credit union’s Capital Roots Garden Bowl program. Funds raised allow the organization to provide community gardens, healthy food access, nutritional and horticultural education for all ages.
- The Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award is given to a credit union for its practical application of credit union philosophy within the actual operation of the credit union. Community Resource FCU is being recognized for its program, Community Heroes – Giving Back to Those Who Keep Us Safe at Home and Abroad. The initiative provides individuals who are active duty, reserve, retirees and veterans, along with firefighters, law enforcement and first responders with savings bonus rates and loan discounts and encourages military members to take a pledge for better savings and budget habits.
- The Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, which recognizes credit unions that demonstrate a significant commitment to youth financial education. Community Resource FCU is receiving the award for its Financial Education for Underserved Youth Including the Blind initiative, which supports the mission of teaching young people about personal finance and related topics both in and out of the classroom. Financial education is supported through a variety of partnerships presenting programs specifically aimed at young people. Topics include money recognition, using math skills to add and how to make change, which can pose challenges for blind or visually challenged students.
